Our Story
In the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, a small group of friends came together and decided that they wanted to do something to support their community during these difficult times. With all other volunteering positions being made unavailable, this group created a fundraiser to help the impending shortage of critical equipment in hospitals and health-care settings. This mask drive, although not one of our largest donations, was very successful and the large amount of support and encouragement from the local community led to the creation of the Humanitarian Society of Vancouver. Today, through the support of our 9 core executives, 30+ volunteers, and 8 sponsors, we are proud to say that we have been able to help homeless populations, children in need, cancer patients, and our local community through various large-scale events.
We are a non-profit organization that aims to create volunteering opportunities within the lower mainland, while also addressing various issues relevant to the community. Through the organization of several fundraising events, our organization looks to do hands-on volunteer work in BC. We participate in a broad range of volunteering activities, such as helping out at missions, food banks and clothing drives as well as schedule multiple volunteering activities a month. We also assist non-profit organizations by giving them access to volunteer workers that will aid them in actualizing their events, fundraising efforts and servicing their members.
We are passionate about issues that include, but are not limited to, disability, mental health, homelessness, education, health, and our environment. Giving student’s opportunities to apply their knowledge and impart their passion to address community issues is our goal. Due to the wide range of interest and current demands for volunteer workers, we select our agencies by prioritizing their requests. We were officially inaugurated as a society on October 3, 2020 as the Humanitarian Society of the Lower Mainland in specifically the Vancouver location.
