Donating to the Heart & Stroke Foundation

Did you know that every 5 minutes, someone in this country dies from heart disease, stroke and related conditions?

This summer the Humanitarian Society of Vancouver will be supporting the #HeartAndStrokeBeatAsOne. It’s important to us to support Heart & Stroke because of the large impact they have in our community. Through their investment into life-saving medical research, support and resources for individuals living with heart conditions, and help in teaching people in Canada to recognize and respond to emergency signs, they have acted in the betterment of our society.

Can we count on you to donate toward our fundraiser to help us reach our goal of $2500? Your donation will help save lives. To donate, please visit the GoFundMe link in our bio. All proceeds will go to supporting the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Holiday Food Drive

Hello everyone! Our upcoming event is a Holiday Food Drive in partnership with the Dream Charity. We are collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations, with our most needed items being: Low Sodium Canned Salmon, Pasta and Diapers (sz4-6).

We are proud to announce that we will be donating to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank this year, through our Holiday Food Drive event. This event is in partnership with the Dream Charity, and we are still accepting both food and monetary donations until December 21st. To learn more about how to donate, visit the link in our bio!

This charity, although initially beginning as a temporary relief strategy during the hunger crisis of 1983, has continued to support members of the Greater Vancouver population. The charity aims to help build healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. In 2020, they served 16,133 people and distributed around 7.1 million pounds of food in the Greater Vancouver Area. With the global pandemic increasing the burden on populations who rely on the food bank, we encourage members of our community to come support this amazing charity!

Relay for Life – Canadian Cancer Society

Nearly 1 in 2 Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. That means half of our family and friends will hear the words “you have cancer” at some point in their lives. Join us so we can show our communities that no one has to face cancer alone. Everyone on our team has their own reasons for participating in the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life, but one thing unites us all: a belief that we can create a world where no one fears cancer.

The Humanitarian Society of Vancouver will be taking part in the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life. This year, the event is on June 12 and will be held virtually. Our goal is to raise $2500 for this year’s fundraiser and we will be fundraising until the end of May. Please help us reach our goal by donating through the link in our bio. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference.

Donations help fund groundbreaking research through the largest cancer support system in the country and shape health policies to make living with cancer easier. Attached to this message is our GoFundMe page. We hope we can count on your support. Make a donation to fund Canada’s most promising research, vital support services for patients and their families, and other important work that could change the future of cancer. Blood Drive

The importance of donating blood has been long-discussed, yet many have often skipped this issue. Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets and plasma — which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.

The Humanitarian Society of Vancouver has partnered with Canadian Blood Services to help those who rely on blood transfusions for medical reasons. Make sure to visit the website in our bio to check if you are eligible to donate blood. Your donation will be heavily appreciated. Help those in need by clicking the link in our bio! For more information, feel free to DM us or send us an email.

Mask Drive

The COVID-19 pandemic is putting significant strain on vital hospital resources including much-needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Across BC, there is an impending shortage of this critical equipment in our hospitals and health-care settings. As our hospitals continue to combat and respond to the critical demand of COVID-19, we are calling on our communities to help nurses, doctors, and other front-line health professionals by donating unused & unopened masks, gowns and eye protection through SafeCareBC. We need to act now.

N95 masks, in particular, are in scarce supply. If you have unopened boxes of N95 masks, please consider donating them. Those in the veterinary, construction, salon, tattoo, dentistry and cosmetic surgery industries may have access to this vital equipment. Moreover, HSV will be purchasing N95 masks; therefore, we will also be taking monetary donations. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept previously used masks, gowns or goggles, or unaddressed packages delivered by Canada Post.

Your generous donations can be picked up Monday to Friday from 5pm to 8pm. We will also be hosting a door-to-door fundraising event. More information regarding volunteering and sign-up for the fundraiser will be provided soon.  Furthermore, proper precautions will be put in place to ensure safety during pick-up of supplies. Questions about other potential items for donations or other inquiries? Please email humanitariansocietyofvancouver@gmail.com or call 778-325-9992.

Please check the google form to let us know when you can donate. It would be appreciated if donations could be clearly marked “HSV COVID-19 Donation.” Thank you again for your generosity and support.
